It is a necessary part that is aparted from 2 parts really, something that I do not understand why, but I am also not an engineer. In my case the 2 parts had broken to 2 pieces, and removing the one that was attached to the machine was really difficult. One should have a special extractor (which in my opinion should be offered as an option), otherwise you would have to physically break the plastic off, something I managed, but not with ease. A hevy hammer is also necessary to put the new piece in place.
