 Protection for Your Ionizer

The new and improved EOS filter helps prevent damaging buildup from mineral scale in areas with hardness 51 - 250ppm. The EOS is easy to install, with quick-connect fittings that attach right into the cold water line of your ionizer.  Hard water can be both beneficial and problematic.  The benefit is you usually get higher levels of magnesium or calcium in your water.  The same minerals can be problematic because under certain circumstances it creates scaling, or buildup, of in water ionizers, piping and other water appliances in your home.

The formation of scale on a surface is caused by crystallization of carbonate or sulfate ions, chiefly calcium or magnesium. Scale forms because oppositely charged surfaces of the scaling mineral ions are attracted to one another and "stick" or adhere together.  This is particularly prevalent when the water is in contact with a metal surface and there is a heat source or electrical charge.

The AlkaViva EOS Filter contains NSF certified media that is highly effective at inhibiting scale formation. The EOS changes the charge distribution on the scaling mineral ions, therefore reducing the attraction which reduces the scaling effect. It doesn't remove the calcium or magnesium, to your benefit, but rather makes it almost impossible to attract and bind together.

The EOS Filter can also help remove existing hard water deposits. As the surface charge is shifted ion by ion on existing scale, the bonds formed through attraction are broken. The scale slowly loosens and washes away.  The formation of scale takes months and sometime years to form. Similarly, this softening or cleaning effect occurs over a proportionately long period of time. Therefore it is recommended that the EOS filter be used on a clean system, when possible.

A convenient way to monitor the life of the EOS scale device is using your Water Ionizers filter counter. It is optimal to install your EOS inline filter with your new UltraWater or BioStone filter.  When you replace the filters at the same time, keeping track is easy. Alternately you can note the level on your filter counter and replace the filter when it reaches the same level.
